Residency Permit

A travel visa issued to you upon submitting an application to the Ghana embassy will allow you to enter the country either on a one time trip or multiple trips.

If you are planning to live in Ghana you must renew your travel visa every few months to remain in compliance as a guest.

But it's more practical to bypass this inconvenience by obtaining a residency permit.

Currently, initial applications only allow for a one year request, but subsequent applications can ask for up to 5 years.

What you will need to apply:

-
Passport
-
Lease rental agreement or land purchase indenture
-
3 months of bank statements
-
Two Ghanaian citizens at witnesses; they also bring their bank statements
-
Letters of support from the two citizens
-
Letter of support from Office Of Diaspora Affairs
-
Personal letter asking for residency, info about yourself, background, education and why
-
Permit fee of 400 cedis
-
Ghana card
-
Copy of marriage license
-
Medical Exam ($250 USD)
-
Police report

Expect to spend 3 - 5 hours at the immigration office.

The immigration office will take your passports, your money, the application and process within 2 - 4 months.
For those pressed for time, need a permit to start a business quickly or open a bank account or need to have their passport back soon, there are expediting services, which can cost in the thousands for 4 - 5 day turnaround services.
